In a surprising move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Rekha Patra as its candidate from the Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, marking her entry into state politics. Rekha, a local resident of Sandeshkhali, gained prominence due to her involvement in various issues concerning women. However, her campaign faced an unexpected setback when she fell ill on the first day of campaigning and was subsequently admitted to AIIMS Kalyani Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

Rekha Patra, who received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, initiated her election campaign on Wednesday by engaging with women in the area. However, she fell ill suddenly during the campaign, leading to concerns among supporters and constituents. Doctors diagnosed her condition as dehydration and administered saline and various tests at AIIMS Kalyani Hospital. Fortunately, Rekha's condition was reported to be stable on Thursday morning, and she was discharged from the hospital after treatment.
